Behold the cake ball, the new cupcake
Because how can we live without a food fad to guide our eating? This just in—cake balls have been pegged by Salon as the next big thing in food. And they should know—they’ve got an entire category devoted to faddy foods. Methinks we just might have a hit on our hands.
Macarons are a non-starter. Sure, they’re popular now, but they’ve got that stink of French elitism that you just can’t shake off. Plus, they’re far too easy to mess up. But cake balls, much like cupcakes, can be dressed up or down, depending on the situation and your class adherences. And anyway, as Salon says, they “should be a hit with anybody who isn’t afraid of eating what basically consists of a large ball of sugar.” Bring it on.
